Annual Chili & Salsa Cook-Off

  • MPC 1310 Ashman Street Midland, MI, 48640 United States (map)

Connecting People to People invites everyone to this tasty event and taco bar taking place in Mayton Hall. CP2P is looking for 12–14 entries for each, and the top two in each win a prize. To enter, contact Dave.

From Dave Neithamer and Aaron Orlowski (aka Willy Chili and Paco Taco):
Calling All Chili & Salsa Chefs!

The Connecting People to People workgroup will be sponsoring the 7th Annual MPC Chili & Salsa Cook-Off to be held on Sunday, October 20 in Mayton Hall at 12:00 noon. We are looking for about 12–14 chilis and a similar number of salsas. As in the past, we are asking that you prepare a large crockpot of chili or large bowl of salsa so there is enough for everyone to taste. The entries will be judged by a distinquished panel of guest judges as well as the congregation, and prizes will be awarded to the top two chilis and salsas for both the People’s Choice and Judge’s Choice. As in the past, CP2P will also be serving a taco bar to supplement the chilis and provide an alternative for those who do not like chili or salsa.

If you would be willing to prepare an entry for this event, please let Dave Neithamer know as soon as possible! We will not have separate categories for spicy or mild chilis this year; we just ask for flavorful chilis. Please don’t make your chili too spicy. Some spice is fine, just no face vaporizer or fire and brimstone chilis please! As in the past, we will provide the small tasting cups (already numbered), spoons, napkins, salsa chips, cheese, etc. Even if you can’t help with an entry this year, we hope you will still come enjoy the event with us. Let’s try to fill Mayton Hall again!

I have one last request. The last four years we held a Chili Cook-Off at Midland’s Open Door and we are planning to hold this again on Wednesday, November 13 during the lunch hour (11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.). Open Door residents consider this event to be one of their favorite events of the year. Please let me know if you would also be willing to provide a crock pot of chili for this event. If you are not sure if you can, I will be sending out a separate request in late October for this outreach event. Thank you so much!
