Memorial Presbyterian Church will host organist Michael Plagerman and mezzo-soprano Marija Bosnar for a vesper concert on Sunday, May 26 at 4:00p.m. in the sanctuary. Plagerman is a doctoral student at Cornell University; he received a Bachelor Degree in organ performance from Pacific Lutheran University and a Masters of Sacred Music from University of Notre Dame. Bosnar holds a degree in vocal performance from Central Washington University, and has performed professionally in operatic roles and vocal  ensembles.

Beginning with the bold Prelude in E-flat, this concert presents the desire of the righteous man for unity with Christ in heaven. Framed by Bach’s Cantata Vergnügte Ruh', beliebte Seelenlust, (BWV 170) the program interweaves the cantata with organ pieces that reflect the character of the vocal work. While topically appearing to be a lament of sinfulness, BWV 170 is truly an acknowledgment of the great peace to be had in the arms of God. The accompanying organ pieces provide reflections on the vocal music, and the culminating fugue on St. Anne, commonly known as the setting for the hymn O God, Our Help in Ages Past, reminds all present of the guarantee of salvation as attested to by all the faithful and those now departed from our presence and at home in heaven.
